Here is a very rare set of six, steel pigment tubes by George Rowney. Each one has “George & Co” on the cap and on the sides it states “Dissolve in methy spirit”. Then each tube also has its own colour printed which are as follows -
Green
Orange
Blue
Red
Nut Brown
Yellow
Athough the Nut brown and yellow are showing corrosion, overall the set looks very nice. Each tube still contains a lot of pigment and it’s very powerful (and beautiful) when dissolved!
In my opinion, they probably date from around the 1900s but are so rare, it’s hard to say. You will unlikely see anymore of these!
These are still very useable or could be added to a period artists box.
